Description

This box of cherry is freely carved on all sides. The top is enhanced with  a mosaic made with a cutting technique that results in two versions, a positive and a negative. Hence I have another similar box with the “partner” design. The top is a lift off, not hinged. The technique of cutting uses two different woods, in this case bloodwood and sycamore. Because bloodwood will fade due to UV light I stain those pieces their own color to retain the brilliance. Without giving away everything the two pieces a double stick taped together and cut with a jeweler blade, several times between gluing. The box is about three 1/2 inches square and 2 1/2 inches tall.
