Description
Many years ago I was using this maple for violins and violas. It came from the shop of violin maker Joseph Bohman who worked in Chicago until about 1920. After much trial and many instruments I decided that the maple was too dense for exceptional instruments, and now I mostly use wood from Bosnia. The wood is beautiful, and perfect for carving, so in the future there will be many more projects and sculptures from this wood. The base is carved from wenge which resembles ebony. The humorous thought keeps coming to me that, as a bicycle rider, I was inspired to carve this shape by the towering nuclear power plant near Byron. I often look across the cornfields to check the wind direction from the two towers. Not a fan of nuclear power, but get me inspiration from wherever it comes.
